About this event:
Afriski Mountain Resort is proud to host the Gin, Wine & Jazz Festival in partnership with Eighteen13. This year’s musical lineup and specialist drinks promise to outstrip last year’s inaugural event. Situated at 3222m above sea level in the northern highlands of Lesotho, this event aims to attract a wide range of people looking for mountain adventure, delicious food, wine and music.
Afriski Operations Director, Peter Peyper, says, “We are very excited to host this event for the second time. Through our partnership with Eighteen13, we believe this could become the premiere wine festival in Lesotho. We are looking forward to tasting some top boutique wines and spending the weekend with friends at 3222m.”
This year, Eighteen13 joins Afriski Mountain Resort in bringing luxurious experiences to the Basotho market. The wines that will be showcased are all boutique wines from different regions within the Western Cape. Each wine is paired with a fun-filled activity with options such as Wine Pong, ‘Mieliegat’, or ‘Pétanque’, which is a form of boules.
A one-hour wine masterclass is also on offer, which will give participants a greater understanding of their favourite wines. The masterclass, presented by boutique wine expert Cezanne Kouta, will cover basic tips on wine tasting etiquette such as how to hold one’s glass and taste wine like a pro. A discussion around myths about wine is covered too. In addition, Kouta will touch on the role of climate change in the wine-making process.
Eighteen13 Boutique Wine Company
Eighteen13 Holdings Company is a boutique wine company based in Johannesburg. They regularly present wine-tasting events and believe that learning about wines and spirits need not be too formal or stiff in order to be informative. Eighteen13 are striving to become known as wine and spirits experts in Gauteng. Their wine selection includes the best boutique, non-commercial South African wines available as well as craft gins, which are currently the trendiest of the markets’ beverage categories.
The second Gin, Wine & Jazz Festival will take place on 1-3 June 2018. Tickets include live entertainment, gin and wine tasting and their associated activities, as well as sundowners with canapés. Please note that the formal, gourmet three-course dinner on Saturday night, which will be paired with the wines on offer, is not included in the ticket price. All meals are charged separately. Accommodation and ski packages are also to be booked separately.
Afriski Mountain Resort and Eighteen13 look forward to seeing you up at 3222m, wine glass in hand!
